FORMAT:
4 credits (3 Lecture – 3 Lab Hours/Week) – Spring Term T/R 1:10 – 4 p.m. or 4:10 -7 p.m.
Prerequisite: IM185
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
IM190: An exploration of web development and production emphasizing creative solutions. Students will produce and program more complex web sites that include multiple levels, sections and content areas.
OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1.Deploy a simple website
2. Read, apply and write accurate tags in HTML
3. Create both text and image map links to move from page to page.
4. Establish an effective navigational approach to a collection of related pages.
5. Apply CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to define page structure and to format live text.
6. Prepare graphic images for use on the Web.
7. Utilize proper naming conventions and file formats when saving files for the Web.
8. Organize digital files for optimal uploading and proper asset management.
9. Identify the differences in behavior between various web browsers and operating systems.
10. Apply basic design principles such as hierarchy, composition and color to page layout and interface design.
11. Use appropriate vocabulary when discussing digital processes.

Minimum 1 GB Flash/thumb drive. Ear buds or headphones.

Steve Krug second edition New Riders Publishers 2006.
Buy online at Powell’s Books and save money.
ATTENDANCE:
Required. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find a way to keep up with the content/projects.
GRADING:
Grades are based on attendance, quizzes and successful completion of all exercises and the final digital file(s).
Attendance: 25%
Proposals and Presentations: 35%
FInal Presentation & Website: 40%
Students who use Email, Instant Messaging, MySpace, YouTube, etc. during class time should expect a lower grade – (unless you are texting, emailing, or leaving comments on Chris’s Facebook page.)

No beverages or food near the computers. Use the designated drink table/counter to store your drinks during class.
MyMHCC Portal is available 24/7 to anyone with an internet connection and browser, regardless of platform, on and off-campus.

Mediaserve is a shared network hard drive storage space for the Integrated Media Department.
We Mediaserve it to post documents, digital assets and group files for our classes.
(Go Menu or Command-K, Connect to Server) from the Finder:

FILE NAMING:
ALL project folders will be submitted to instructors with the following file naming scheme:
majorcode_lastnamefirstinitial_projectname example: dp_smithm_photo_gallery
*** Follow instructor directions for specific FILE names for each project/asset
Instructors will post documents for you through the RB1> IM191> Class_Info (students can read only). Section 01
Instructors will post documents for you through the TV1> IM191> Class_Info (students can read only). Section 02
Students will post documents the appropriate section.
(for example: RB1> IM191> IM191.01 DropBox (students can write only).
Share documents with other students or store your own work in your personal folder in the First_Year> StudentFiles folder. Make your own folder name using the following naming scheme: lastname_firstinitial (no need to use “folder”)
Mediaserve provides storage for all Integrated Media users: (Broadcasting, Video, DigPho, Graphic Design students and faculty).
Please limit what you store on it to no more than 1 Gigabyte!!!
***All files stored on Xsrv2 are removed at the end of each term.****
NOTE:
ANYONE can delete, move, alter, copy or destroy a file that you store on the Xsrv2.
Be aware that your work is vulnerable, and use good judgment and ethical behavior when working with another’s file. If it’s really important, precious, or special, back it up onto another piece of media (CD, thumb drive, iPod, etc.) You have no expectation of privacy on MHCC computers.
You can access Xsrv2 from any Mac on campus or during open lab hours in 1453.
Xsrv2 may be accessible from off-campus only if you use a Mac and have an Internet connection (IP address: 63.230.190.35)
